ABOUT AL: Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Al Smith quickly grew to love the game of football. After being awarded multiple athletic scholarships, Al chose Utah State where he was selected for the Utah State Athletic Hall of Fame and All-Century teams. Shortly thereafter, in 1987, Al was drafted in the sixth round by the Houston Oilers and played through 1997 where he was all-pro, elected to the Houston Oilers Top 50 All-Time Players team and was a team captain and leader for his teammates.
After his playing days as a Houston Oilers, he moved to Nashville with the Tennessee Titans as an executive in the front office. Al further worked as a radio sports analyst in Nashville and spent six years as President of the NFL Alumni Association Tennessee Chapter. Today, Al currently serves on the board for the American Cancer Society and on the board of the NFL Alumni Association National Office. Al is an ambassador with the NFL Fuel Up to Play 60, and continues to help people strive toward and achieve their goals as an author, speaker, and former athletic administrator at Vanderbilt University.
